Feedback Session on AIBC’s Modernising IA-CEPA Report, Sydney

We are pleased to invite you to our in-person feedback session in Sydney, following our submission of AIBC’s Modernising IA-CEPA Report to DFAT. 

The Report outlines the key findings and recommendations from this landmark report that was prepared in close partnership with Asialink Business and Justin Brown (Free Trade Agreement expert) and funded by DFAT. 

We hope these insights prompt reflection and discussion across our membership and the broader Australia–Indonesia business community. AIBC’s Modernising IA-CEPA Report represents the most comprehensive business-led review of the ‘Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement’ since it entered into force in 2020.

The findings are clear: while the relationship has strong momentum, IA-CEPA is not yet delivering to its full potential.

Two-way trade has more than doubled since 2020-21, reaching $34.8 billion in 2024–25, and Indonesia is on track to become one of the world’s largest economies by 2040. The opportunity is significant. However, for Australian businesses operating on the ground - or seeking to enter the market - the reality remains complex. Non-tariff barriers remain high and more work needs to be done to ensure full implementation of the existing IA-CEPA provisions.  Our report outlines practical recommendations on what needs to change to unlock the next phase of growth.
