INDONESIA UPDATE FOR BUSINESSES IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA


What can we expect from Jokowi’s second presidential term?


AIBC SA Chapter in collaboration with Flinders University – Jembatan Initiative is delighted to present this interactive dialogue to discuss current circumstances and practices for Australian entities to do business in Indonesia, with special lens of politic, economic and market position, security in the country.

The interactive dialogue will be a facilitated discussion, aims to actively engage with participants asking questions to the panellists. Topics covered will include:

  • An overview of Jokowi’s new cabinet and trade and investment planning portfolio (an update on IA CEPA);
  • Snapshot of the Indonesia’s growing economy and potential market opportunity for Australian businesses;
  • Operating a business in Indonesia: security and risk measures.


Our panellists provide a broad range of expertise and experience in Indonesia:

  • Dr Priyambudi Sulistiyanto is Senior Lecturer of Indonesian Studies at Flinders University, College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences and Academic and Academic Director of Jembatan Initiative. He has been a strong advocate for Australia-Indonesia relation in education sector for more than 20 years. His teaching areas includes Indonesian politics and comparative politics of SE Asia, Indonesian culture and society, environment and development in Asia;
  • Assoc. Prof. Paul Burke is Deputy Head, Arndt-Corden Department of Economics at Australian National University (ANU). He is an economist working on energy, the environment, transport, and developing countries, with a focus on the Asia Pacific. Paul presented his joint research on Indonesia’s economic growth, democracy and trade relations with Australia at the ANU’s annual Indonesia update conference in September 2019;
  • Ian Betts is Director Mainland SE Asia, Risk Intelligence Service Line Leader at Hill Risk Consulting Ltd (Hill & Associates). He has over 25 years of experience in Asia and considered as a leading analyst. Ian led Risk Intelligence Service in Indonesia and provide a broad spectrum of risk and security areas. He speaks fluent Bahasa Indonesia and has a strong fond of Indonesia: its cultures and peoples.
