Opportunities for Defence Exports to Indonesia:

Hear Hon David Johnston (Defence Exports Advocate)

Dear Members and Friends,

The Australia Indonesia Business Council (AIBC) in conjunction with the Australian Industry Defence Network Chapter ACT (AIDN-ACT Inc.) and the Defence Council of the Australian Industry Group (AiG), are pleased to invite you to attend a briefing on the opportunities for defence exports to Indonesia.

The briefing will be held at the offices of PwC in Canberra on 15 May 2018 and the program will include:

  • Hon David Johnston, the Australian Government’s Defence Exports Advocate;
  • His Excellency Kristiarto Legowo, the Indonesian Ambassador to Australia;
  • senior officials from the Department of Defence, EFIC, Austrade.

Australia is ranked 19th in the world for defence exports, with the US our largest market accounting for around 51 per cent of exports, followed by Indonesia with 28 per cent of defence exports in 2017 (Defence Connect, 13 March 2018).

The Defence Exports Strategy was released by the Australian Government in early February 2018 and aims to move Australia into the top 10 defence exporters.  With the growing need for the Indonesian armed forces to update their equipment and systems this will present a significant opportunity for Australian exporters, particularly SMEs that are involved in global supply chains. INDO DEFENCE will be held 7-10 November 2018 in Jakarta and will provide an opportunity for defence exporters from a number of countries to display their equipment and services.

The Australian Government has also established a $3.8 billion Defence Export Facility administered by the Export Finance and Insurance Corporation (EFIC) to help Australian companies get the finance they need to underpin the sales of their equipment overseas and provide Australian defence industry an opportunity to identify and pursue new export opportunities when there is a market gap for defence finance.

Exporting to Indonesia presents a number of challenges for Australian companies and this briefing aims to provide attendees with introductory information on the market and regulatory environment. This event will include key guest speakers and a panel session comprising key industry players drawn from companies that have been successful in defence exporting to Indonesia.  Other government agencies including Austrade, the Centre for Defence Industry Capability, Department of Defence and EFIC will also have representatives available to discuss how they can assist Australian exporters in the Indonesian markett

N.B.  As this event is being catered (canapes and drinks), places are limited and Registration is essential.

AIBC, AIDN and AiG would like to thank PwC for their sponsorship of this event:
