Prabowo's economic plan for Indonesia

Prabowo Subianto, the former army general, who won Indonesia’s presidential election earlier this year will take office in October. However Prabowo, who is 72, knows that once in office he must manage his time and resources carefully, if he is to fulfil his presidential pledges to the nation.
Prabowo has signalled he will continue the policies and approach of his predecessor Jokowi, including intensifying 'tax and invest' strategies to support the development of Indonesia's young population - especially the less privileged. His commitment to investment extends beyond economic infrastructure to include social programs, such as lunches for all school children. These policies promise to be both expensive and transformative, and his newly appointed cabinet must strike a fiscal balance which is both ambitious and sustainable.
To discuss the incoming president's policies, the AIBC Victoria will host a panel discussion on Thursday 24 October with leading experts on Indonesia's politics and economy.
We will welcome Professor Vedi Hadiz from the University of Melbourne who specialises in Indonesia's political economy, and Agustina Arumardi from Monash University who is researching Indonesia’s fiscal policies.
In a discussion hosted by Monash University's Professor Edward Buckingham, we will interpret and discuss the very early signals emanating from the media and explore how this new era of Indonesian politics will shape the country's future
The event will include light refreshments and networking after the panel.
RSVP by Monday 21 October to secure your place at this event. Note you must bring ID to the event to register with security at International Chamber House.
